  Matthew Waldie

Originally from Victoria B.C., Matt Waldie trained at Sinclair Academy of Performing Arts, then the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Professional Division Program, from which he graduated in 2003.

Matt performed with Toronto Dance Theatre for six seasons.  There, he helped create roles in original works by Kate Alton, Josh Beamish, Nova Bhattacharya, Val Calam, Deborah Hay, Christopher House, Sasha Ivanochko, Louis Laberge-Côté, Laurence Lemieux, Felix Marchand, Andrea Nann, Kathleen Rea, and Natasha Torres-Garner. 

Independently, Matt has danced in works by Sylvie Bouchard, Zhenya Cerneacov, Miread Filgate, Kate Franklin, Tina Fushell, D.A. Hoskins, Harvey Meller, Jorden Morris, Bruce Monk, Brodie Stevenson, Anisa Tejpar, and Meredith Thompson.  He has also performed with blackandblue dance projects, Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company, Discovery Dance, and for Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee.  Matt has been featured in dance films by Marta Renzi, Alana Elmer, Nico Stagias, ELD Films, Boundless Entertainment, Runningduck Productions, and Discovery Dance, many of which have been included in film festivals across North America.  He is currently a dancer with Move: the company in Vancouver, B.C.

Matt has taught for Toronto Dance Theatre (school and company), Move: the company, the Royal City Youth Ballet, Dance Teq, Westcoast Academy of Performing Arts, and many workshops across North America.  He has choreographed works throughout Canada, including for Nuit Blanche, Luminato Toronto, Series 8:08 Season Finale, At The Wrecking Ball, Full Scale Revolution, In A White Room, Milk and Honey, Orchestra Toronto, and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School.
